PILLOWCASE DRESS
Pillowcase Directions:
1) Iron the pillowcase
2) Cut the top (closed end) open.
3) Follow General Directions below.
Yardage Directions:
1) Measure how wide you want the dress. I measured a pillowcase and used that measurement.
2) Sew (or serge) up both sides. Your top and bottom will be open.
3) Follow General Directions
General Directions:
1) Armholes: Fold your dress in half lengthwise. Measure down two inches from the top and mark. http://www.everythingsewing.net/howtopictures/pillowcase_dress/pillowcase_pattern.pdf Place the top of the pattern on the mark and cut out the half circle opening. Finish armhole so that the sides won’t ravel. You can serge the edges or use a fusible hem tape such Steam A Seam ¼ inch fusible tape.
2) Casing: Fold down the seam ¼ inch and press. Measure between and 1 inch and 1 ½ inches (this measurement depends on the width of your ribbon for the ties) from the top of the seam. Fold and press. Stitch down. You will do this for the front and the back of the dress. Insert ribbon or ties.
3) Hem: If you are using a pillowcase there is no need to hem. If you are using yardage hem. I use a rolled hem on my serger.
4) Use ribbon, buttons, or extra fabric, to embellish the dress.
